Renting a car; are you covered?
It's that time of year to remind everyone how you may or may not be covered while you rent a car for your upcoming Spring Break trip, business trip, or just renting a car for fun.
Yes your vehicle policy typically will extend coverage to your rented car for liability and physical damage (if you have it) only, but NOT for loss of use!
What is loss of use? That is the time the rental car company cannot rent that car out to someone else while it is being repaired due to damage you caused.
Some carriers do cover this gap, so call your agent, or comment here. If you are insured with a carrier we represent, I may be able to assist you with deciphering your coverage!
Another tip; your Credit Card company may cover the Loss of Use portion of your rental car, don't be afraid to call them to inquire too!.
